What changes between September and May
Colorado's traction law applies on I-70 from Dotsero to Morrison every year from September 1 through May 31, and CDOT can escalate it to chain law in a storm. That is the stretch every one of these routes uses. Our mountain vehicles are equipped to meet it, and the chauffeur checks the pass report before the car leaves for the airport, not after you land.
The tunnel and Vail Pass are where the day is won or lost. Westbound traffic out of Denver stacks up on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings; eastbound, Sunday afternoon is the slowest window of the week. A Sunday-afternoon departure from Vail can run well over the clear-weather time; the same trip at 9 a.m. usually does not. We set pickup times around that, and around your flight, not around a map estimate.
If CDOT closes the tunnel, Vail Pass or Berthoud Pass, we do not guess. We hold at a safe stop, reroute where there is a real alternate, or move the pickup with you. Two airports, one standard
For Vail, Beaver Creek and Aspen, Eagle County (EGE) is the closer airport. We run EGE to Vail, EGE to Beaver Creek and EGE to Aspen the same way we run DEN. How far are the ski resorts from Denver International Airport?
By road from DEN: Winter Park 92 miles, Keystone 93, Frisco 95, Copper Mountain 102, Breckenridge 104, Vail 121, Beaver Creek 133, Steamboat Springs 180, Snowmass 221 and Aspen 222. In clear weather that is roughly two hours to Summit County, two to two and a half to Vail and Beaver Creek, and four to four and a half to Aspen and Snowmass.
What does a private car from DEN to the mountains cost?

Do you drive to the mountains when chain or traction law is in effect?
Yes. Colorado's traction law is in force on I-70 between Dotsero and Morrison from September 1 through May 31, and our mountain vehicles are equipped to meet it. How many skiers fit in one vehicle?
A Luxury SUV carries up to 6 passengers most of the year and 5 from November 1 to April 30, when ski bags take the extra space. An Executive SUV seats 5, the Executive/Jet Van 9 and the Luxury Coach Van 12. Larger groups get multiple vehicles or a coach on a free quote.
Should I fly into Eagle (EGE) instead of Denver for Vail or Beaver Creek?
EGE sits about 35 miles from Vail and skips Vail Pass and the tunnel, so it is the shorter drive when your flight is available.
