From Eagle County you head west on I-70 through Gypsum and Eagle, past the mouth of Glenwood Canyon, and turn south at Glenwood Springs onto CO-82. From there it is a steady climb up the Roaring Fork Valley — Carbondale with Mount Sopris standing over it, then El Jebel, Basalt, Woody Creek, and into Aspen at 7,890 feet.

It is a short transfer by Colorado standards, which is exactly why it is worth doing properly. CO-82 is a two-lane road for much of its length, it drifts and ices in winter, and the stretch between Basalt and Aspen carries heavy local traffic at commute hours. In a storm the biggest change is the route itself; closures are checked before the trip and adjustments are made by the chauffeur en route, and you are told what changed and why.

Eagle is a small terminal and that works in your favor. Your chauffeur waits inside on Level 1, in the open area between baggage claim at the west end and the ticket counters, near the restrooms — a short walk from Ground Transportation. That is a different procedure from Denver International, where we meet curbside on Level 5, and travelers who use both routinely expect the wrong one.

We track your flight and set the pickup around your actual landing, not your scheduled one. Eagle's approach is weather-sensitive; when a flight diverts, most often to Denver, we do not cancel the ride. We reposition.

Gear rides on top. We recommend open roof racks and many of our vehicles run covered boxes, so skis, boards and any luggage beyond what fits comfortably inside go up there rather than across your lap. Through the winter we limit SUVs to five passengers, which keeps roughly seven or eight pieces of luggage inside the cabin with everyone still comfortable.
