at Eagle County
Diverted to Grand Junction. Cancelled at the gate. I-70 shut at Dowd Junction. Here is what we do in each case, written down before it happens.
When an Eagle County (EGE) flight diverts or cancels, Arion keeps the reservation open and rebooks it against your new arrival — including meeting you at Denver International and driving up if you are diverted there. We never cancel a ride on our own initiative; the only exception is one hour after landing with no contact. Wait time after a flight is included, and vehicles run 4WD with state-approved winter tires for Colorado's Traction Law.
Why EGE weather is its own category
Eagle County Regional sits at 6,480 feet on the floor of a narrow valley with terrain on both sides. That geometry is why the airport exists thirty-five minutes from Vail, and it is also why approaches here are more demanding than a plains airport's. Add a schedule that is almost entirely seasonal — 97% of the Eagle County airport transfers in our record fall between November and March — and you get an airport whose busiest days are also its worst-weather days.
The practical consequence is not that EGE is unreliable. It is that when a flight does go sideways, there are fewer recovery options than at a hub. That is a planning problem, and it is solvable with information rather than optimism.

The four things that actually go wrong
1. Your flight diverts. Usually to Denver, sometimes Grand Junction. Tell us where you actually landed and the reservation moves with you — if you are at DEN we meet you there and drive up, which is a 121-mile, two-to-two-and-a-half-hour run to Vail. If the airline is bussing passengers to Eagle, we can meet the bus instead. Either way the ride is not lost.
2. Your flight cancels outright. We issue a credit for the value of the ride and rebook off your new flight information. A cancelled flight is not a cancelled reservation, and it is not a no-show.
3. Your flight is delayed for hours. Nothing for you to do. The flight is tracked, pickup is set 30 minutes after scheduled landing and moves with the arrival, and the wait is included. The chauffeur texts you when the aircraft is on the ground.
4. The road closes after you land. I-70 between Eagle and Vail is short but exposed, and Dowd Junction just west of Vail is where it usually happens. There is no good detour — US-24 over Tennessee Pass is longer, higher and worse in the same storm. We wait it out, keep you posted, and keep the vehicle assigned to you rather than releasing it to another booking.
The one rule we will not break
We do not cancel your ride because your flight looks bad. Not when the board turns red, not when the airline app says the inbound aircraft is still in Dallas. The only trigger that releases a vehicle is one hour after landing with no contact from you, and only after dispatch has exhausted every way of reaching you.
This sounds like a small thing until it happens to you at 10 p.m. in a storm. The alternative model — a driver who leaves because the algorithm reassigned him — is exactly the failure a pre-arranged charter is supposed to prevent. If you want the ride cancelled, tell us and we will cancel it.
Cancellation terms are the same on every booking: full refund at 48 hours or more, up to 50% inside 48 hours, nothing inside 24. Tours run on a 7-day window.
How long a snowy EGE arrival really takes

There is no summer comparison to make at Eagle County, because there is barely a summer operation. Winter is the baseline. Note also what the interval measures: it is the time from the flight-linked pickup slot to the recorded pickup, which includes baggage claim, ski bags, passenger readiness and flight changes. It is not a measure of drivers running late.
For comparison, the same median at Denver International is about 18 minutes — but a Denver arrival is followed by a two-hour drive instead of a thirty-five minute one.

What we run, and what the state requires
Vehicles run state-approved winter tires and four-wheel drive, which is what Colorado's Traction Law asks of passenger vehicles on I-70; 4WD vehicles are not required to chain up. Two-wheel-drive vans and buses carry the traction devices the state requires. Chauffeurs are asked to carry a cold-weather kit — flares, triangles, solar blankets, water, food — because the stretch between Vail Pass and Dowd Junction closes without much warning.
Colorado's Traction Law is in force on I-70 most of the winter. In plain terms it requires either all-wheel or four-wheel drive, or snow tires, or chains, with a minimum tread depth. Our vehicles satisfy it on equipment, so a Traction Law activation does not stop the trip; a full Passenger Vehicle Chain Law activation, which is a step further, is rare and usually accompanies a closure anyway.
The equipment matters most on the last mile rather than the interstate. Village Road up to Beaver Creek climbs 1,500 feet in switchbacks. Vail's frontage roads glaze over in a freeze-thaw. These are the places where a two-wheel-drive sedan on all-seasons becomes everyone else's problem.
Departing in a storm: build the buffer
Arrivals we simply absorb. Departures are where planning actually changes the outcome, and where most people get it wrong by an hour.
Two hours sounds excessive until the tunnel closes for ninety minutes. The cost of being early at an airport is a coffee. The cost of being late is the trip.

How much extra time should I leave for a winter departure to EGE?

How long does it take to get out of EGE after landing?
Median 30 minutes and average 39 in our record, from the flight-linked pickup slot to the passenger actually in the vehicle. Nearly one arrival in five takes over an hour. Ski bags are most of the difference.
Can I switch my booking from EGE to DEN at the last minute?
Yes. Call dispatch at (970) 703-4995. Rebooking against a different airport is a normal storm-week request and we would rather do it than have you standing in the wrong terminal.
What do your chauffeurs carry in winter?

Is a shared shuttle a reasonable backup in a storm?
It is cheaper and it stops for other passengers, which in a storm compounds. A private transfer is a fixed party, a fixed vehicle and a rate locked at booking that weather does not change.
