DEN Accessibility Guide

DEN Transportation for Passengers
with Mobility Needs

Honest answers about what our vehicles can and cannot do, how meet-and-greet works for an elderly or unsteady traveler, and what to tell dispatch when you book.

Yes — we regularly meet elderly passengers and travelers with mobility needs at DEN. Your chauffeur meets you on Level 5 near baggage claim with a name sign, handles all luggage, and walks you to the vehicle. Our fleet is not wheelchair-lift equipped; we accommodate folding wheelchairs, walkers and canes stowed in the vehicle. Tell dispatch your needs when booking.

Talk to Dispatch

Can a chauffeur pick up an elderly passenger at DEN?

Yes, and it is one of the trips we are asked for most

Adult children book us for parents flying in; companies book us for senior executives; hotels book us for guests who should not be navigating a rideshare queue. It is a normal, planned service, not a special request.

What actually happens on arrival

Your chauffeur monitors the flight, parks, and waits on Level 5 near your baggage claim holding a name sign. They collect the bags, walk at your pace, and see you to the vehicle — no curb hunting, no phone app, no unfamiliar driver.

Door-to-door, not curb-to-curb

At the other end, the chauffeur opens the door, assists you out of the vehicle, and carries the luggage to the door of the home, hotel or facility. If someone is meeting you, dispatch can text them when we are ten minutes out.

For unaccompanied older travelers

Book with the flight number, the passenger's mobile number, and a family contact. We will confirm the pickup to the family contact by text so somebody who is not on the plane knows the ride happened.

What can your vehicles accommodate — and what can't they?

Be direct about the limitation first

Our fleet is not wheelchair-lift equipped and has no ramp. If a passenger cannot transfer out of their chair into a vehicle seat, we are not the right operator for that trip, and we will tell you that on the phone rather than at the terminal.

What we do accommodate

Folding wheelchairs, transport chairs, walkers, rollators, canes and crutches, stowed in the vehicle's cargo area. Portable oxygen concentrators. Service animals, always, at no charge. Passengers who need a slow, supported transfer into the seat and a chauffeur's arm to lean on.

Step height matters more than luxury

A sedan sits low and is often the easiest transfer for someone with limited leg strength, because you sit down rather than climb up. Our SUVs sit higher and have a running board; some passengers find the grab handle and step easier, others find it harder. Tell dispatch which is easier for the passenger and we will send that vehicle.

Room for a chair plus luggage

A folding chair plus two suitcases fills a sedan trunk. For a mobility device plus luggage plus a companion, the Executive SUV (up to 5 passengers) or Luxury SUV (up to 6) is the safer choice. Capacities and rates are on the fleet page.

What should I tell dispatch when I book?

Five details that make the trip work

The mobility device and whether it folds; whether the passenger can transfer into a standard vehicle seat unassisted, with help, or not at all; whether a sedan or an SUV step is easier; the flight number; and a family or assistant contact number.

Say it out loud rather than in a notes field

Call (970) 703-4995 for any trip involving a mobility need. Two minutes on the phone gets the right vehicle and the right chauffeur assigned instead of a surprise at baggage claim.

If we cannot serve the trip, we will say so

There are trips that need a lift-equipped or paratransit-style vehicle. We would rather tell you that in advance and lose the booking than have a passenger stranded at DEN.

How does accessibility work inside DEN itself?

Wheelchair assistance is the airline's service

Wheelchair assistance from the aircraft through the terminal is arranged with your airline, ideally at booking and at least 48 hours ahead. It is separate from ground transportation. We coordinate with it — our chauffeur waits at the meeting point while the airline escort brings the passenger down.

The terminal is large, and the train is unavoidable

Denver International's concourses connect to the main terminal by underground train, and the walk from a gate to baggage claim can be substantial. Build in extra time, and use the airline's assistance rather than trying to make it on foot to save minutes.

Our wait grace covers slow arrivals

Airport pickups include 30 minutes of complimentary wait time from actual landing, and dispatch extends the plan when we know an assisted deplaning is involved — assisted passengers usually leave the aircraft last.

Accessible seating at venues

If the trip continues to Red Rocks, a theater, or a wedding venue, tell us — we plan the closest legal drop-off point rather than the default one. See the venue transportation hub.

Why families book a chauffeur instead of a rideshare

A named, screened, trained chauffeur

Every Arion chauffeur is background-checked, drug-tested and trained to our own service standards — see chauffeur training. You know who is picking up your mother before the plane lands.

Real commercial coverage

$1.5 million in commercial auto liability and $5 million in general liability on every trip, under Colorado PUC authority HCA0096. That is a different category of protection from a personal-vehicle rideshare.

No cancellation at the curb

A reserved vehicle cannot decide your pickup is not worth the fare. No surge pricing either — the quoted hourly rate is the rate.

A record that matters here

More than 2,500 trips, 10,556 passengers, 579,878 miles, zero accidents, and 51% of our clients booking us again.

If we’re not the right fit, who is?

Our fleet has no wheelchair lift or ramp, so a passenger who cannot transfer out of their chair into a vehicle seat needs a purpose-built operator. These are the three we would point a family to. We receive nothing for these referrals.

Hermes Worldwide — for executive and group travel

Hermes Worldwide · (303) 577-7600. A Denver chauffeur company operating an ADA Sprinter shuttle that seats 14 passengers plus one wheelchair, with a roll-in entry system rated to 800 pounds and secure wheelchair straps. They also run non-emergency medical transportation. If you want the same standard of chauffeured service we provide, with accessibility we cannot offer, start here.

RideToo — for passengers travelling in a mobility device

RideToo operates a dedicated fleet of company-owned wheelchair-accessible vans with employed drivers, serving Denver, Jefferson, Arapahoe and Douglas counties. At least one person in the party must travel seated in a mobility device. They accept most Medicare Advantage and workers’ compensation coverage. This is the closest match for the trip we cannot take.

RTD Access-a-Ride — for the lowest cost

RTD Access-a-Ride is Denver’s ADA complementary paratransit service, available to and from any location within three-quarters of a mile of RTD’s fixed-route network. It requires ADA certification, and trips must be booked one to seven days ahead — there is no same-day service. RTD’s Access-on-Demand program adds subsidised wheelchair-accessible trips through partner providers.

For medical transport specifically

GK / Goodkind Transport, (303) 949-9931, provides non-emergency wheelchair, ambulatory and stretcher transport with lifts and ramps.

Call us at (970) 703-4995 if you are unsure which fits. We would rather spend five minutes pointing you somewhere better than take a booking we cannot serve well.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who should I call if I need a wheelchair-accessible vehicle?

Arion's fleet has no lift or ramp. For chauffeured accessible travel we recommend Hermes Worldwide (303) 577-7600, which runs an ADA Sprinter shuttle seating 14 plus one wheelchair. For a passenger travelling seated in a mobility device, RideToo operates a dedicated wheelchair-accessible fleet. RTD Access-a-Ride is the lowest-cost option and requires ADA certification.

Can a chauffeur pick up an elderly passenger at DEN?

Yes. Your chauffeur meets the passenger on Level 5 near baggage claim with a name sign, handles all luggage, walks at their pace, and assists them into and out of the vehicle. We can text a family contact to confirm the pickup happened.

Do you have wheelchair-accessible vehicles at DEN?

Our fleet is not lift- or ramp-equipped. We accommodate folding wheelchairs, transport chairs, walkers and canes stowed in the vehicle for passengers who can transfer into a vehicle seat. If a passenger cannot transfer, we will tell you before you book.

Can you take a folding wheelchair or walker?

Yes — folding wheelchairs, transport chairs, rollators, walkers, canes and crutches all stow in the cargo area. A chair plus two suitcases fills a sedan trunk, so we usually recommend an SUV for a mobility device plus luggage.

Which vehicle is easiest to get into?

It depends on the passenger. A sedan sits low, so you sit down rather than climb up. An SUV sits higher with a running board and grab handle, which some passengers prefer. Tell dispatch which is easier and we will assign that vehicle.

Are service animals allowed?

Always, at no additional charge. Let dispatch know so we assign an appropriate vehicle and allow room.

Do you arrange wheelchair assistance inside the airport?

Assistance from the aircraft through the terminal is your airline's service — arrange it at booking or at least 48 hours ahead. We coordinate with it: your chauffeur waits at the meeting point while the airline escort brings the passenger down.

What should I tell you when booking a trip with mobility needs?

The mobility device and whether it folds, whether the passenger can transfer into a seat unassisted, whether a sedan or SUV step is easier, the flight number, and a family or assistant contact. Please call (970) 703-4995 rather than only using the notes field.

Will the chauffeur help with luggage and to the door?

Yes. Every transfer is door to door: the chauffeur loads and unloads all luggage, opens doors, assists in and out of the vehicle, and carries bags to the door of the home, hotel or facility.

Can you carry portable oxygen or medical equipment?

Portable oxygen concentrators and similar personal medical equipment travel with you at no extra charge. Tell dispatch in advance so we allow space and brief the chauffeur.

Tell us what the passenger needs.

Because You Matter — and so does whoever is flying in.
