Steamboat's airport is in Hayden

Yampa Valley Regional Airport is owned by Routt County and sits two miles southeast of the town of Hayden, about 25 miles west of Steamboat Springs. It has one runway, 10,000 feet by 150 feet, at 6,606 feet of elevation. That is long enough for the airline narrowbodies that fly in every winter, and it is one of the few runways that size on the Western Slope.

Most people who say they are flying into Steamboat mean this field. Downtown Steamboat is about 30 minutes east on US-40, and Craig is about 20 miles the other way. The Colorado airports guide compares HDN with Denver, Eagle and Aspen, and the Colorado FBO directory lists every operator and drive time by airport.

Two operators on the field

Atlantic Aviation is the established FBO, at 105 Tower Court. It is staffed from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day, with on-call service outside those hours by prior arrangement. Most of our Hayden ramp meets happen here, including the Citation in the photo above.

Desert Jet opened two new heated hangars at HDN in 2026, 28,800 square feet each, and fuels aircraft on its own ramp at 4155 Summers Drive. If your aircraft is handled there, tell us when you book so the chauffeur goes to the right gate.

Either way, our side is the same. Give us the tail number and we track the aircraft, coordinate the meet with line staff, and stage the vehicle so it is in position when the door opens. If wheels-down moves by two hours, the pickup moves with it.

Winter is the season

In peak winter, December through April, six airlines fly into HDN, and the airport reports nonstop service to about 15 cities. The private ramp gets busy the same weeks, and the weather is the same for both. When snow holds a flight, the ride is held with it. When a flight diverts to Denver or Eagle instead, call us: once notified, we reassign the ride to a chauffeur in that market, with additional charges per the rate card.

There is no customs at Hayden. International flights clear at a port of entry first, so give us the final leg and we time the pickup to that.

What we put on the ramp

Luxury SUVs carry 5 passengers on mountain trips, with skis and boards on the roof. The Executive Jet Van seats 9 with a 4-hour minimum, which is the vehicle for a full aircraft plus gear. Tell us the gear count when you tell us the tail number. Eight sets of skis is a vehicle question, and it is easier to answer at booking than on the ramp.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which FBOs handle private aircraft at Hayden?

Two operators: Atlantic Aviation, the long-standing FBO at 105 Tower Court, staffed 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily with on-call service by prior arrangement, and Desert Jet, which opened two new heated hangars on the field in 2026 and fuels on its own ramp. Tell us which one is handling the aircraft and we coordinate the meet with their line staff.

How far is Hayden airport from Steamboat Springs?

About 25 road miles east on US-40 to downtown Steamboat, roughly half an hour in clear conditions. The resort base at Gondola Square is about 28 miles. Snow on US-40 adds time, and we build that into the pickup.

Can HDN take a large jet?

Yes. Yampa Valley Regional has a single 10,000 by 150 foot runway at 6,606 feet elevation and sees airline narrowbodies every winter. Performance for your specific aircraft at that elevation is your flight department's call, not ours.

Is there customs at Hayden?

No. HDN does not offer customs, so international flights clear at a port of entry before continuing to Hayden. Give us the final leg and we time the pickup to that.

We diverted to Hayden. Can you get a vehicle here?

Call (970) 703-4995 and tell us where you actually landed. Arion dispatches 24/7 and we do not cancel a ride because the airport changed. Once notified, we reassign the ride to a chauffeur covering the field you are at, with additional charges per the rate card.

Do you carry ski and snowboard gear from the ramp?

Yes. Skis and any bags beyond what fits inside ride on the roof, on open racks or in a covered box. Luxury SUVs carry 5 passengers on mountain trips, with a four-ski-set limit. The Executive Jet Van seats 9 and is the answer for a full aircraft with gear.

Do you also meet airline passengers at Hayden?

Yes. The commercial terminal and the private ramp share one field, so the same dispatch covers both. Give us the flight number and we track the arrival.
