Quick Answer: Denver's free downtown fireworks ran at 9 p.m. and midnight on 16th Street on New Year's Eve 2025. Getting there is easy. Downtown empties within about 40 minutes of midnight, so book a car by mid-November, plan on four to six hours, and pick a meet point a block from the venue.
9 p.m. or midnight
Denver has done downtown New Year's fireworks for more than twenty years. On December 31, 2025, there were two free shows, at 9 p.m. and midnight, launched from two rooftops and best seen from 16th Street (Visit Denver, 2025). Each ran about eight minutes.
The 9 p.m. show works for families, or anyone who wants dinner and fireworks and to be home before the crowd. Everyone else goes at midnight, which makes the hour after it the hardest hour of the year to get a ride. Visit Denver posts the 2026 schedule in December.
RTD is free that night
For New Year's Eve 2025, RTD ran its 17th Zero Fare night with Molson Coors. Every bus and train was free from 7 p.m. December 31 to 7 a.m. January 1 (RTD, 2025). RTD added extra trips but said they wouldn't show up in real-time tracking.
If you live a short walk from a light rail station, take it. From the suburbs, with a group in evening clothes, or headed somewhere the last train doesn't reach, it gets you part of the way.
Why midnight is the problem
Restaurants, hotel ballrooms and venues downtown all empty within about 40 minutes of midnight. The streets they empty into are partly closed and completely full. App prices go up. Wait times go up more.
A booked car was committed to you weeks ago at a set rate, and the chauffeur is already parked close by instead of fighting the same traffic to reach you. Book by mid-November for December 31.
How the night usually runs
Most New Year's Eve bookings run four to six hours. We don't require that. It's just how long the night takes:
8:00 to 10:30 The car stages nearby and pulls up when you text.
10:30 Over to the party or the fireworks.
11:00 to 12:45 a.m. Waiting. This is the part you're really paying for.
12:45 to 1:30 Home, with as many stops as you need.
Two short transfers and an improvised middle work fine until midnight. If you only book one thing, book the ride home.
On cost: five hours in an Executive SUV (five passengers, $154.50 an hour) is $772.50 all-in, gratuity optional. A Luxury SUV for six is $180.25 an hour. A Jet Van for nine is $283.25 an hour with a four-hour minimum. Every vehicle is on our fleet page.
Rates shown are all-in. All prices are all-in: taxes, fuel and card processing included. Gratuity is optional and never added automatically. Gratuity is never auto-added.
Pick the meet point now
16th Street, Larimer Square and the blocks around the convention center don't work normally that night. Streets close and the curb disappears. A driver circling the block is a driver you can't find.
We set the pickup spot when you book, usually a corner a block from the venue rather than the front door. Your chauffeur texts the exact spot and stays put. Hotel ballrooms are the same: when a hundred people come out one door, meeting a block away gets you home sooner.
Going up to the mountains
Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone all do their own December 31, and plenty of Front Range people go up for it. Going up is fine. Coming back on January 1 is one of the worst eastbound I-70 days of the year, and leaving around 10 a.m. or after 6 p.m. can be the difference between two hours and four. Our I-70 winter travel guide has more.
