Can We Stop for Groceries on the Way to the Mountains?

Grocery runs, liquor stores and two-resort drop-offs on a ski transfer: how they're billed and how to plan them.

← Ski Resort Transportation Hub

Quick Answer: Yes. On an hourly booking there's no stop charge; the stop just uses your booked time. On a one-way transfer, additional charges apply: $25 per extra stop, plus any added time at the vehicle's hourly rate in 15-minute increments. Plan it at booking and it's built into your quote. One booking can also drop your group at two resorts.

Yes. What a Stop Costs Depends on How You Book

A grocery run, a liquor store or a ski rental shop on the way up is easy to add. Whether it costs extra depends on how the trip is booked.

How that time is charged depends on how you booked:

As an example, a 30-minute stop added on the day to a one-way transfer in an Executive SUV ($154.50 per hour, all-in) adds the $25 stop charge plus $82.40 for the time. The same stop on an hourly booking adds nothing.

The Best Grocery Stop Is the Last Big Store Before Your Resort

Every resort town on the I-70 corridor has a full-size grocery store, so you don't need to shop in Denver and carry cold food for two hours. Shop near the end of the drive instead. These full-size stores sit closest to each resort; we checked every address against the store's own listing in October 2026. Call ahead for holiday hours.

A full family shop takes longer than a quick stop for snacks. Tell us roughly how big the list is, and we'll plan the time around your check-in.

Wine and Beer Are in the Grocery Store. Spirits Are a Separate Stop

Since March 1, 2023, Colorado grocery stores that sell beer can also sell wine, after voters passed Proposition 125. Spirits are not included, so if you want a bottle of whiskey for the condo, that's a second stop at a liquor store. Mention it at booking and we plan both (Colorado Liquor Enforcement Division, 2023).

Groceries Need Cargo Room, So Size the Vehicle for Them

A full grocery run takes cargo space the same way luggage does, and it rides up alongside the ski bags. Size the vehicle for everything in it, not just the people.

Five skiers with luggage and a full grocery run will fill a Luxury SUV before the shopping is in. That trip belongs in a van. Our SUV vs. Sprinter guide and ski gear capacity guide walk through the sizing.

Traveling with small children? Car seats are $25 per seat and boosters $15. Add them when you book.

One Booking Can Drop Your Group at Two Resorts

Groups often split: one family to Breckenridge, another to Vail. A single vehicle can do both drop-offs on one booking. Tell us every address when you book, because transfer pricing is distance-based and the quote covers the whole route.

Whether the second drop adds a little or a lot depends on the geography. These road distances from Denver International Airport come from our route pages:

SplitWhy it's easy or hard
Frisco + BreckenridgeBreckenridge (104 miles) is about 9 miles past Frisco (95). An easy add.
Copper + VailBoth on I-70. Vail (121 miles) is about 19 miles past Copper (102), over Vail Pass.
Vail + Beaver CreekBeaver Creek (133 miles) is about 12 miles past Vail. An easy add.
Breckenridge + VailBreckenridge sits off I-70, so the vehicle doubles back through Frisco before heading over Vail Pass. Expect it to cost noticeably more than either drop alone.

When the split is long, two vehicles leaving DEN together can make more sense than one vehicle doubling back. If you send dispatch the group size and both addresses, we'll quote both ways.

Rental Shops, Pharmacies and Other Stops Work the Same Way

Ski and snowboard rental fittings, a pharmacy run or picking up keys from a property manager are all fine. Each one uses time on the same terms as a grocery stop. If you have several, send the list with your booking and we'll put them in a sensible order along the route.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can my chauffeur stop at a grocery store on the way to the ski resort?

Yes. On an hourly booking there's no stop charge; the stop uses your booked time. On a one-way transfer, each extra stop is $25 and added time is billed at the vehicle's hourly rate in 15-minute increments. Tell us at booking and it's built into your quote.

Do you charge extra for stops?

Not on hourly bookings: a stop simply comes out of your booked hours. On one-way transfers, additional charges apply: $25 per extra stop, and time past the trip's expected length is billed at the vehicle's all-in hourly rate in 15-minute increments.

Can one car drop us at two different ski resorts?

Yes. One booking can cover several drop-offs. Send every address at booking, because transfer pricing is distance-based and the quote covers the whole route. Splits on the same line, such as Vail and Beaver Creek, add little; Breckenridge and Vail add more because the vehicle doubles back through Frisco.

Can grocery stores in Colorado sell wine and spirits?

Since March 1, 2023, Colorado grocery stores that sell beer can also sell wine. Spirits are still sold only in liquor stores, so whiskey or vodka means a second stop.

What vehicle do we need for five skiers plus groceries?

Five skiers with luggage fill a Luxury SUV, which carries five passengers and five bags on mountain trips. Add a full grocery run and the trip belongs in a van, which holds 14 bags.
